These bold oversize roosters (and, so far, one hen) are inspired by the feral roosters of Kauai. They are to be shown, by invitiation of resident artist, Alice Rich, at Studio 13 Fine Art on Granville Island, Vancouver from May 14-18, 2015. They are a bold and unforgettable presence in a room. Each is also accompanied by a phrase from Chaucer's 'The Nun's Priest's Tale of the Coq and Hen, Chauntecleer and Pertelote'. The paintings seemed to call forth the quotes from Chaucer!
A Tuscan Harvest
My exhibition of this series was June 1-30, 2009 at Artspring on Salt Spring Island. The exhibition garnered great reviews and most of the pieces have sold. Those remaining can be seen through Gallery8. One of the images graced the cover of the Artspring brochure for 2010 which was sent to all Salt Spring residents.
After a long bike trip to the Venice Biennale, we had a magical trip back down through the Venice Lagoons. The sea and sky were one and the sun made everything glow. Beautiful. I made small paintings on metal when we returned to Tuscany and then larger studio paintings when I returned home.
