I work out of Bunbury Studio at our property, Bunbury, on Salt Spring Island, B.C. where I am surrrounded and inspired by an overgrown and beautiful garden.
As a counterpoint to our quiet island, each year I am able to indulge in an enviable amount of travel. I regularly enjoy a second kind of country life in Tuscany with my friend Jamie Evrard. You can view her work at the Bau-Xi gallery site: www.bau-xi.com . We paint and draw in Tuscany but are lately much consumed with long bike-rides, inspiration of a quite different sort. Two years ago, we had an intriguing drawing adventure in Laos. Several pieces stemming from this trip were part of my March, 2017 show at the Bateman Gallery, Artspring, Ganges. Images from this show and previous shows can be seen on my gallery pages.
During the past year and a bit, in addition to canvas and panel, I have been exploring the use of mylar as a surface for oil painting. Most of the pieces in my last show (Feb. 27 - Mar. 3, 2017) were on this interesting impermeable surface. I continue to explore its possibilities. I also worked for many months this winter in watercolour and goache on paper and canvas, a grand experiment.
In late 2016, I left (amicably) Gallery 8, which had represented me on Salt Spring for many years. I am grateful to Razali Wahab, the owner of Gallery 8, for his considerable support through those years.
I am currently doing work for a solo exhibition at The Duthie Gallery on Salt Spring Island. The show is scheduled to open June 9, 2018. I am delighted to show at this Gallery which is an exceptional sculpture garden and gallery. You can check them out at duthiegallery.com .
