I am updating this at the beginning of a reluctant spring and in the middle of a global period of sheltering in place. This Pandemic and how the world stopped for it will be long remembered. Having to stay at home has made me realize how attached I already am to our home and my Clarence House Bunbury Studio in Victoria, B.C. after only 18 months
Sadly, I cannot make my usual spring trip to Tuscany with my friend Jamie Evrard (you can view her work at the Bau-Xi gallery site: www.bau-xi.com) . We usually paint and draw in Tuscany, garden fiercely, take long bike-rides in other parts of Italy and Europe, and generally fill the well of learning and inspiration. We will miss it and hope our Tuscan "family" stays well.
However, I am working steadily in my studio. It has been a pleasure to return to still-lifes and to flowers in particular. It seems apt for this early springtime. I will try to post photos of my new paintings in groups..... if I continue to keep some of them. Because they are not mounted or framed yet and are not yet even fully complete, I have not priced them and am not yet prepared to sell them, but thought I would share them here.
I have several other completed series of paintings which I have not yet exhibited publicly. One group of oil paintings were inspired by the Venice lagoons on a magical ferry trip returning from the Venice Biennale. The smaller studies for these were painted on aluminum in Tuscany and the larger studio paintings on mylar. Another series of paintings are large watercolour still lifes made in Tuscany. And I made another series of flower still-lifes after my return from Hawaii. These paintings are oil on mylar and are of the amazing "Bird of Paradise" flowers found all over Kauai.
I am not currently exhibiting through a Gallery. I will be having a public exhibition and sale of my work in November, 2020 a the Cedar Hill Arts and Recreation Centre and will post more information and send invites closer to the time. I hope the world is fully functioning by then!
If you are interested in viewing my work, please contact me directly or through this site (phone: 250-539-0787). I love to show people my studio and I always have work in progress and in inventory.
